Even though tonight’s originally scheduled games were moved up, plans are still in place for Knoxville High School’s contests on Saturday night; the annual Coaches vs. Cancer girls and boys varsity basketball games are scheduled to tip off on Saturday evening, at their planned times.
Extreme cold is predicted for Saturday morning, following a night of heavy snow; but the schedule of alumni basketball games beginning at 8:00 a.m. in the high school gym are still on.
There will be a co-ed round robin, men’s and women’s games, and a traditional six-on-six game featuring mothers.
A special meal will be served starting at 3:30 p.m. and a silent auction will continue all day long and during the course of the games. There will also be fundraising promotions including the Chuck-a-Duck rubber duck toss, and a 46 second sprint through the crowd to collect money for the American Cancer Society. 46 symbolizes the number of Iowans diagnosed with cancer daily.
Featured between games will be the presentation of checks on behalf of Coaches vs. Cancer, and a tribute to cancer survivors; for the first time, one from Chariton has been invited to take part in the ceremony.
Both games and the special ceremonies can be heard live on AM 1320, FM 94.3 and FM 95.3 KNIA.
