Pella Christian’s boys took down rival Des Moines Christian in wire-to-wire domination, 77-47 at home.

The Eagles opened the game with the first 14 points and never looked back, with seven players scoring eight or more each in a contest that went to the continuous clock in the 3rd quarter.

Head Coach Larry Hessing was impressed with his team’s balanced attack and shutdown defense.

“To be honest with you, I wasn’t quite expecting this kind of a result–I expected a really tough, close basketball game,” Hessing says. “In the first half, our defense was outstanding early on, our guys were really tuned in to the details of our scouting report. They did a really nice job, and offensively we shared the ball well and made some shots.”

Dan Jungling scored 12, Jake Pringle racked up 11, and Jason Lai made his varsity debut to score 11. Josh Van Gorp had a 10 pt, 10 rebound double-double as well.

The Eagles girls couldn’t keep up with No. 6 in Class 3A Des Moines Christian in a 61-38 loss.

Girls Coach Brad Engbers tells KRLS Sports the Lions defense was too much to handle at times, and prevented P.C. from finding any sort of offensive groove.

“They did a good job of containing Allison and Bella inside,” he says. “The best way to get yourselves into a position to make those passes is to hit those shots from the outside, and today for us, our shooting wasn’t particularly good.”

Allison Van Gorp finished with a dozen points, and Emma Huisman scored 10.

Pella Christian’s boys improve to 8-5, while the girls fall to 7-7; both host Norwalk for a doubleheader Tuesday that can be heard on the KRLS2 stream on kniakrls.com.
