Central’s basketball teams were swept in Loras in a women’s-men’s doubleheader, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Freshman guard Jenna Clark hit five first-half 3-point shots but American Rivers co-leader Loras College led wire-to-wire for a 71-49 win over the Dutch. Clark began attracting plenty of defensive attention and was held scoreless in the second half but still led the Dutch with 17 points. Central falls to 6-11 overall, and 2-6 in the conference.

A spirited second-half rally fizzled for a shorthanded and undersized Central College men’s basketball team in a 106-91 loss at Loras College Saturday. Minus two injured frontcourt starters, the Dutch had to rely on a four-guard lineup and still sliced a 20-point deficit to two points. After falling behind 53-33 in the first half and trailing 53-38 at intermission, Central used a 13-4 run in a 2:40 span to climb within 65-63 with 13:32 remaining. But Loras, the league’s second-place team at 6-2 and 14-4 overall, responded with a 17-5 burst of its own and held a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Guard Adam Flinn had 20 points and six rebounds for the Dutch while forward Thomas Spoehr posted a career-high 17 points. Central’s men drop to 7-10 overall, and 4-4 in the American Rivers. Central is home Wednesday to take on Coe College for two games, with the women’s game starting at 6 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
