Arctic air is blasting the region through the end of the week, with dangerous wind chills expected.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will drop throughout today, with wind chills as low as 15 to 20 below zero by the afternoon. Wind gusts today will top out between 35 to 40 miles per hour, causing blowing snow, especially in flat areas without vegetation or trees. Many roads cleared from snow may become slick, and visibilities may be reduced as well. Overnight, air temperatures will drop to well below zero, with wind chill values as low as 25 below expected into the early morning hours Friday.

Frigid air will continue through Saturday morning. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur in as little as 30 minutes in those conditions without proper winter gear for protection. After a brief warm up to the low 20s on Sunday and Monday, another blast of frigid air is in the forecast for most of next week.
