The recent string of colder temperatures has allowed the new Indianola Ice Rink at Pickard Park to open for public use.
The rink was constructed in early December, but required several days of below freezing temperatures to harden the ice. Indianola Parks and Recreation Director Doug Bylund tells KNIA News the rink will be open for the morning hours for hockey players, then will have an open skate time for the rest of the day.
Under the lights open skating will also be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. In case of further weather events affecting the availability of the rink, Indianola Parks and Rec will post signs at the rink as to whether it is open or closed. The rink may be periodically closed if there is damage to the ice or the ice has melted, or during and following snow storms.
