One of the first major items on the checklist for the ongoing state legislative session is securing funding for K-12 education.

State Senator Ken Rozenboom tells KRLS News the governor called for a 2.3 percent increase in state aid for general fund expenses, a number he doesn’t think the senate or house will venture too far from. He says the only differences he envisions between the proposal from the governor’s office and what the legislature may come up with is how they fund inequities in the system between districts, especially those with high transportation costs.

Under Iowa Code, the legislature is required to set education funding within the first 30 days of the session, which started on January 14th.
