A strong showing from some senior reserves provided the excitement for the Central College wrestling team at the Duhawk Open Saturday.
No team scores were kept at the tournament featuring plenty of competitors from Division I and II schools like Iowa and Iowa State. Competing for the first time this season and for the first time under the name Steven Tuggle, the 197-pound senior was the only Central wrestler to finish in the top six of his weight class. Formerly known as Steven Candley, Tuggle finished fourth with a 3-2 record. Lane Rumelhart led the team with four wins Saturday before falling in the consolation final to Jared Florell of Purdue University. Both Chris Murino and Jeremy Scheuermann also went 3-2 on the day.
Two duals await Central in the next week, starting with a non-conference tilt against William Penn University in Oskaloosa on Tuesday and ending with an American Rivers Conference home match against Luther College at 7 p.m. Thursday.
