The annual basketball games weren’t the only events related to Coaches vs. Cancer which were postponed due to the severe winter weather; one fundraiser conducted as part of the annual campaign took place in Knoxville on Saturday, on the third try.
The Friendly Guys & Gals 4-H Club held their soup supper at the Iowa State University Extension building; several types of soup and chili were offered for sale, with all the proceeds going to Coaches vs. Cancer.
4-H Club President Mickayla McGill tells KNIA/KRLS News the club faced the same obstacles which the main Coaches vs. Cancer event has gone through.
“We’ve been trying for quite a while to get both this soup supper and Coaches vs. Cancer on a day that wasn’t affected by weather; so we’re looking forward to finally being able to have both of these events,” Mickayla says.
This event has personal meaning for several 4-H members; it was staged in memory of Sarah Collins, mother of members Sean and Natalie; Chasen Stevenson, alumnus and former club president, and in honor of Mike McGill, the father of Mickayla and Kaden McGill.
The final amount raised will be announced at the Coaches vs. Cancer games, now scheduled to be played on Thursday, February 7th.
