A fourth grade teacher at Northstar Elementary has been selected by the Knoxville VFW as its Teacher of the Year.

Katie Spriggs was recognized by members of Post 3519, and presented with her certificate on Friday.

Also recognized were three students at Knoxville High School, as Outstanding Spokespersons for Freedom; Nyan Baker, Jordan Salato and Peyton Braman won first, second and third respectively for the writings they submitted…with Nyan earning a trip to Washington, D.C.

At Knoxville Middle School, Kyl Bauer’s essay on “Why I Honor the United States Flag” earned him first place; Braydon Epping was the runner-up.
