Guard Jaden Moody pumped in a career-high 31 points but a late 5-minute scoring drought spoiled the Central College men’s basketball chances to steal a road win Saturday.

Host Wartburg College held off the Dutch 93-81. Central trailed 45-40 at intermission but was up by as many as five points in the second half, led 66-65 with 11 minutes left and was still within 81-75 with 6:06 remaining. But then Wartburg ran off eight straight points in the next 5 minutes to break away. The Dutch men are now 7-12 overall, and 4-6 in the American Rivers.

Capitalizing on its size advantage, No. 21-rated Wartburg College stifled the Central College women’s basketball team 73-33 Saturday. Shots in the paint were scarce for the Dutch, with 29 of their 56 shot attempts coming from beyond the 3-point arc. But Central hit just a pair of 3’s and shot 23.2 percent from the floor overall.

Both games were heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

Central’s only home appearance in a four-game stretch is a daunting one Wednesday when No. 1-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan men travel to Pella for a contest as part of a women’s-men’s doubleheader at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium. The night starts with the women’s game at 6 p.m.
