A Pella man is accused of stealing from a family member’s storage shed.
Benjamin Curtis, 38, is charged with two counts 3rd degree burglary, a class D felony, 2nd degree theft, a class D felony, 4th degree theft and 4th degree criminal mischief.
According to court records, the Pella Police Department, learned of storage sheds in the community that were broken in to through a dividing wall. Officers learned Curtis was related to the owner, and after a search warrant was issued for the residence, found over $1000 in valuables stolen from the storage units. Additionally, according to investigators, he admitted to burglarizing the facility on an audio recording to a witness.
Curtis is living in the 700 Block of 4th Street in Pella and was recently released from prison after serving time relating to a 2013 guilty plea to 3rd degree sexual abuse and domestic assault. Curtis was sentenced to 11 years, but was released in 2018 and is a registered sex offender.
