The trial of a Marion County man accused in the shooting death of his mother will be held in Council Bluffs.
A motion to move the trial of Jason Carter out of Knoxville was filed after his arrest in 2017; he is accused in the death of his mother Shirley Carter.
Marion County Attorney Ed Bull has confirmed the trial will be moved to Council Bluffs; it’s scheduled to begin in early March. It’s expected to last three to four weeks, and Marion County will have to bear the associated costs for staff and dozens of witnesses.
Judge Brad McCall granted the motion for a change of venue in July; the defense argued having the trial in Marion County would make it too sensational, but Bull disagreed about media coverage making the trial sensational, saying it was just routine coverage of a sensational case.
