Coming up in February, 3rd grade students in the Indianola Community School District and Victory Christian Academy will be presented with American Flags from the Indianola Lions Club.

This will be the 28th year students will be receiving flags from the Lions Club, and Lions Club member Judge Kevin Parker tells KNIA News the club got the idea from a club in California doing something similar, and wanted to educate local students about the flag.

“This program honors our flag, honors our veterans, and instills some patriotism in with the students, or at least we try to instill some patriotism. What we’ve found out is the best grade to approach is the third graders because they are so enthusiastic and fun loving, they just sit on the edge of their seats and listen to us in the Lions Club and we try to get some veterans to come help us out.”

The Lions Club has given out over 6,000 flags since 1990. For more information on the Lions Club Flag Day presentation, tune in to today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
