Bingo will be returning to Knoxville, as the Senior Center obtains approval to hold a regular game to raise revenue.

At Monday night’s City Council meeting, members approved the request from the center to hold a game twice a month; it will be open to adult players of all ages from around the community, and the proceeds will help support the center’s activities.

Roy Richardson from the Senior Center’s board appeared before the City Council to obtain permission to start up the game; he says the center in the basement of City Hall will continue to operate regardless of the potential changes to the county’s Senior Nutrition Program…but they will be needing this new source of revenue to maintain their operations.

The council gave its approval on the condition that the Senior Center obtain the necessary license and insurance, steps Richardson says they were prepared to follow. A schedule for these bingo games has yet to be determined.

The Council also heard a full presentation on the budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year; most department budgets are largely unchanged, but the airport improvements budget jumped dramatically because of the $3.3 million runway and hangar project.
