A high school student was injured after involvement in a two-vehicle collision at the Highway 163-Clark Street Interchange in Pella this morning.

According to the Pella Police Department, several witnesses said the driver of a sedan had stopped at the end of the off ramp from the eastbound 163 lanes at Elevator Road just before 8 a.m., but attempted to take a left turn towards the city with several vehicles in the southbound lanes of Clark Street.

A large railroad truck hit the driver side of the smaller car, causing significant damage and airbag deployment as it traveled onto the ramp that merges traffic back on to Highway 163. Extrication was required by Pella Ambulance and Pella Fire Department personnel, and the student was transported to Pella Regional Health Center. The truck received damage to its front, and the operator was not injured.

UPDATE: The family tells KRLS News the teenage driver involved suffered minor injuries.
