Pella High School is hosting a night for students interested in becoming a part of the growing apprenticeship program.

Principal Eric Nelson tells KRLS News the opportunities have expanded from welding this year, with several students already applying for the “learn-as-you-learn” process that includes participants working at a local business or industry while earning high school credit, certifications, and college credit.

“For the current school year, our one apprenticeship has been welding, and that has gone very well–we have a lot of industry in the community that’s very interested,” Nelson says. “We have now completed and registered apprenticeships in culinary arts, nursing, and engineering technician–we’ll have all four effective for the 2019-20 school year.”

The Pella High School Apprenticeship Recruitment night will be held on Monday, January 28th at 7 p.m., with parents of all prospective students invited, including those currently enrolled in the high school to those who may have younger students who might later decide to apply when they get older. Details about all of the programs available in the district–including welding, nursing, culinary arts, and engineering technicians, will be provided.
