The priority for the Iowa Legislature each year is to establish the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
District 79 Representative Dustin Hite tells KRLS News the Iowa House, based on initial meetings and plans, will likely closely align on spending plans with the Governor in several areas. He says one number that will be up for debate, especially with the Senate, is how much of the planned 2.3 percent K-12 education increase will be spent on transportation equity, as well as closing the gap on per pupil funding disparities between districts.
According to Iowa Code, the House and Senate are required to approve a bill for education funding within the first 30 days of the session.
