The magical second half of the PCM wrestling season continued last night, as the Mustangs clinched the program’s first ever trip to state duals with a pair of wins in Atlantic for regional duals.
Fans might have been out of nails to bite by night’s end, as the Mustangs narrowly defeated Harlan 38-33 in the semifinals and Carlisle 38-31 in the title round. Landon Fenton was Mr. Clutch for the Mustangs, as the championship round came down to the final match between Fenton and Carlisle’s Nicholas Pogue in the 113lb match. The sophomore was not going to denied, dominating from start to finish en route to a 16-0 technical fall that allowed the Mustangs to capture history. Fenton was one of six PCM wrestlers to record two wins on the evening also including Colby Tool, Cody Wallace, Wes Cummings, Jarron Trausch, and Lucas Roland. Other victorious Mustangs included Payton Drake, Jace Smith, and Chance Palm.
PCM will compete at state duals next week at Wells Fargo Arena but first 10 wrestlers gear up for the individual districts on Saturday in Knoxville.
