After surging to a 14-point first-half lead, the Central College men’s basketball team was staggered by a devastating 35-2 Buena Vista University run in a deflating 108-78 road loss Wednesday night.
Forward Seth Wood hit five 3-pointers and finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Central, which had defeated Buena Vista 77-73 at Pella Jan. 19, remains in seventh place in the league standings with its hopes slipping for a berth in the six-team league tourney. The Dutch trail the sixth-place University of Dubuque by two games in the league standings with three games remaining.
Mistakes were again the difference for a young Central College women’s basketball team, which struggled through an 85-61 loss at Buena Vista University Wednesday. The Dutch were knocking down shots for most of three quarters but couldn’t overcome 26 turnovers.
On Saturday, Central is home to take on Luther College in a women’s-men’s conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium, which will be broadcast on 92.1 KRLS.
