Due to more winter weather, the Knoxville School District was forced to move up its board meeting and revise the agenda.
The school district dismissed two hours early, and cancelled all evening activities; so the school board instead met at 2 o’clock in the boardroom at the district’s main office.
The agenda was shortened so only the most essential business would be dealt with; the board issued its initial proposal to the Knoxville Education Association as the two parties begin contract negotiations, since they faced a deadline in responding to the KEA’s own proposal.
Member Marty Duffy objected to the district’s offer, saying there was no time for the board members to properly review it. He attempted to withdraw his earlier vote of approval, but was told it was no longer possible under parliamentary procedure.
The board also learned the Healthy Hometown Knoxville Coalition has received a $5,000 award from the Healthiest State Initiative; the school district is one of several partners involved in the coalition, and Knoxville is one of three towns along with Algona and Mason City to receive the award.
The board has scheduled another meeting for Monday, February 25th to deal with the remaining business. It’s the board’s usual meeting time, but they originally weren’t planning to have one.
Monday night’s boys varsity basketball game against Carlisle has been moved to Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 p.m. at the Knoxville High School gymnasium. It will be followed at 7:00 p.m. by the girls Class 4A tournament game against Norwalk.
Because the boys game is a regular season contest and the girls game is part of the state tournament, the gym in accordance with Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union rules will be cleared between contests and there will be separate admissions charged.
