A Pella man recently sentenced to 60 years in prison for several felonies has pled guilty to another charge.
According to court records, George Hettinga, 67, pled guilty to possession of a firearm as a felon, a Class D felony. Additionally, the charge comes with an enhancement as a habitual offender, due to prior convictions. Hettinga will be sentenced on March 28th.
Last year, he was found guilty at trial on several felony charges related to an April 2017 arrest. Hettinga was sentenced to 30 years in prison for a Class B felony, which was automatically doubled to 60 years, as Hettinga was determined to be a habitual offender. For those convictions, he could receive reduced time for good behavior and become eligible for parole, but not before a mandatory three year sentence.
In December, Hettinga had several charges in Mahaska County dismissed by the court.
