Yet another snowfall didn’t keep the crowds away from The Well, as the ministry offered a waffle breakfast on Sunday morning as a way of introducing themselves and their services to Knoxville.
The free breakfast at Dyer-Hudson Hall at the Marion County Fairgrounds came with information about the services which The Well will offer when its new Resource Center opens in Knoxville.
Jayson Henry is executive director for The Well; he says business picked up once churches began letting out for the morning, and the streets were cleared off. And he tells KNIA/KRLS News volunteers and staff fielded plenty of questions by people who came to the event, wanting to know more about what The Well has to offer.
“We sure have; we’ve had volunteers here going through and explaining to people what we do…we’ve got the display boards set up here. You’ll notice our tables are pretty well empty of the handouts that we had; so it’s been a really nice, really nice event for us,” Henry says.
The Resource Center on Pleasant Street will have a thrift store, and offices where people can find out about the work programs, volunteer efforts and social services The Well provides or can put them in touch with.
Henry says remodeling is underway to convert what was once a grocery store and laundromat into a more modern-looking complex; he says it should be ready for use around May 1st.
