This is National Future Farmers of America Week, and the chapter at Knoxville High School is using the opportunity to get students outside the organization involved…especially on Thursday, for Meals from the Heartland.
During the week there will be FFA Dress-Up days; members will encourage their classmates to dress each day according to a theme, such as America or dressing like a farmer. This is open to all students at the high school, whether they’re in FFA or not.
Mickayla McGill from the Knoxville FFA tells KNIA/KRLS News they’ll be taking part in the annual skills competition this week, with a chance to advance to the state level.
“We have kids in the job interview, conduct of meetings and chapter program contests; if students move on from sub-districts, they’ll advance to districts which is on March 2nd in Indianola. And then two from the district will advance on to state,” McGill says.
The FFA is also hosting its annual Meals from the Heartland food packing on Thursday; students at the high school will be joined by community volunteers, preparing meals for shipment to any domestic or foreign location with persons in need.
Packing will be held throughout the school day; people wishing to help may come by at any time to offer their assistance.
