Both the Simpson women’s and men’s basketball teams are moving on in American Rivers Conference tournament play after picking up a doubleheader sweep on their home court Tuesday evening. The #3rd seeded Storm women dominated from start to finish against Nebraska Wesleyan, scoring 49 first half points and holding the Prairie Wolves to just 20 overall and 6 in the second quarter. Simpson cruised to the victory in the second half, with the lead only getting as close as 20 late in the fourth quarter. Jenna Taylor scored 24 points, while Janey Botkins scored 19 including hitting five triples. The Storm men traded blows with the Kohawks of Coe College throughout the first half, going into the break tied at 39. Both offenses started to heat up in the second half however, with the Storm eventually building an advantage into double digits. Foul trouble allowed the Kohawks to mount a comeback, but Simpson hit key shots down the stretch to pick up the 90-82 victory. Conor Riordan led the squad with 21 points, while Adam Reiter scored 20 and grabbed 12 rebounds. The Storm women advance to the semifinals and will travel to Dubuque to take on Loras, with the Storm men playing #1 Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln. Both games will take place on Thursday.
