Both the Simpson Storm women’s and men’s basketball seasons came to a close last night despite fierce rallies in the American Rivers Conference tournament semifinals, with the women falling 88-83 to Loras and the men 85-80 to #1 Nebraska Wesleyan. The Storm women would fight from behind the entire game, and ended up down 8 at halftime. The deficit grew to 9 going into the fourth quarter, where the Storm pushed forward and grabbed a 61-60 lead before the teams traded the lead back and forth with Loras earning just enough of a push to end the contest ahead. Jenna Taylor scored 27, while Claire Johnson had 11 assists. It was a tale of two halves for the Storm men’s basketball team, getting outscored by 20 in the first half 56-36, but roaring back in the second half to get the game close down the stretch and outscored the Prairie Wolves by 15. Conor Riordan scored 21 in the contest, and the Storm were paced by five scorers in double figures. The Storm women end their season at 20-7, while the Storm men end with a 16-10 record.
