Despite adding two more days to the school year, the Indianola Community School District still faces a deficit of 5.8 hours to make up to get to the state mandated 1080 educational hours. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News the consensus from the IEA and other parties is to avoid adding days to the school year.
“The plan that I currently have in mind is to add 12 minutes per day for six weeks, starting the week after spring break and going through the week that ends May 3rd. That should be a fairly painless way to make up those six hours if we don’t have anymore weather events. If we do, we can look at extending that 12 minute time period longer, or we could potentially repurpose some professional development time as instructional time.”
