A couple of stinging losses to end the boys basketball season for Pella and Pella Christian means another rare year without state tournament representation in the Tulip City.

For just the fifth time since 1989, no Dutch or Eagles hoops squads will be competing for a state title. In 26 of the 31 years, at least one team has represented the community in the final eight tournaments. It’s the second consecutive year without an appearance, the first time that’s happened since the run started in the late 80s.

The Eagles fell in Substate to Van Meter 48-46 Saturday, while Pella dropped their Sweet 16 contest with Ballard Monday night 73-57.
