A second grade boy was struck by a van while he was trying to cross a street near the Knoxville Middle School at approximately 3:15 Friday afternoon.
A witness told KNIA/KRLS News on scene that a woman driving a van was talking on her phone and apparently didn’t see the boy. He was tossed across the lane of traffic into a snowbank.
The accident occured at the intersection of West Pleasant Street and West Desmont Drive.
Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman says the boy was transported to the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics with apparent non-life threatening injuries, and will likely be OK. No charges will be filed in the accident.
Knoxville Fire and Rescue and the Knoxville Police Department responded to the call.
