Professor of English Michael Harris’ presentation, Mr. Pynchon Goes to Iowa: Thomas Pynchon’s Search for Community, as part of the second annual Faculty Lecture Series, has been rescheduled for 7-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Van Emmerik Studio in the Maytag Center on Central’s campus. Harris’ topic will be “Mr. Pynchon Goes to Iowa: Thomas Pynchon’s Search for Community.” Pynchon, an American novelist, originally avoided and criticized the region as a cultural wasteland, but later, that aversion gave way to recognition. Harris examines Pynchon’s portrayal of the Midwest-and Iowa-as a metaphor for a now unavailable imagined community.
