The Indianola Community School District is still working on their proposed budget, but the preliminary budget shown to the board shows a tax levy decrease for the upcoming fiscal year. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News the board and administration wanted to keep the burden on taxpayers low but still accomplish their goals.
“I’ve heard little complaining about tax rate in this community, which we try to keep pretty steady. We are set to have about an 80 cent decline in our tax levy this year, so we are looking at about $18.50 per $1000, which is down from $19.33 or so this fiscal year. So in a year where there are a lot of budget challenges with the city and county, it’s good that the school district, which makes up a big part of the local tax burden, is able to decrease that a little bit.”
Sathoff also said the budget hearing will take place on March 11th, but if anyone has any questions on the proposed budget they can contact School Business Official Johna Clancy at the school administration building.
