The savage winter weather from mid-January on hit everyone including local sports teams. One of the hardest hit was the Knoxville Wrestling Squad. While it was an equal opportunity winter, the Panthers were very young this season and Coach Doug Hatch estimates around 15-17 matches were lost for all wrestlers due to winter weather cancellations. He tells KNIA Sports that was tough knowing his younger guys needed to get that mat time to gain experience. Some of the meets wiped out this season was a quad at Dallas Center-Grimes and the Centerville Invitational, which brings in teams from Iowa and Missouri and is considered one of the premier in season meets of the year.
