State Representative Scott Ourth spoke during the public comments period at the most recent Indianola School Board meeting, speaking in favor of keeping permissive language in the Master Teacher Contract. Ourth tells KNIA News the contract negotiation process isn’t about getting everything one side wants, it’s about the healthy discussion and coming together to find a solution.

“Good communities are communities that sit down around the table and discuss their differences openly, and have open and honest discussions about the issues of the day. Particularly when it comes to the conditions of ones employment when they are a public employee like our school teachers. I think it’s summarily wrong that the school board and administration have suggested that they are only willing to talk to teachers and school employees about their base wages. It cuts everything else off the table. When you do that, you begin to tear at the fabric of our community, and I think it’s wrong.”
