The Indianola City Council approved the Fiscal Year 2020 Budget at their most recent meeting Monday evening with a property tax increase of 57 cents, from $12.70 to $13.27 per $1000. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the increase was not an easy decision, but was necessary to pick up a shortfall in public safety staffing.

“Raising taxes is not something that is easy for any organization to do. I think when you look at how the funding is broken down, most of the tax dollar goes to public safety. That 57 cent increase is directly tied to the addition of two police officers and three firefighters, as well as a clerical position for the police department.”
