The Pella City Council approved the 2020 Fiscal Year budget at their meeting this week. Assistant City Administrator Corey Goodenow says this year’s budget is over $44 million, and includes several key capital improvement projects relating to infrastructure. Some of the upcoming priorities included reconstruction of University Street near Caldwell Park, sewer and water upgrades to the Oostpoort Alley in downtown Pella, mandated wastewater treatment plant improvements, and continued development of the municipal telecommunications utility. Goodenow says the key in this year’s budget is that the council is committed to maintaining the property tax rate of $10.20 per $1000 of valuation for the 18th consecutive year.
