The Iowa Basketball Coaches Association released their all-substate teams for boys basketball performers this week.

Pella and Pella Christian were both well represented in the groups of teams made up of playoff brackets set for the road to Wells Fargo Arena this season.

The Little Dutch had three players selected to Substate 6 in Class 3A. Logan Shetterly, Nick DeJong, and Ryan Gustafson were all voted to the team. Shetterly led the Dutch as the team’s point guard with 17.3 points per game and 55 assists, Gustafson hit 47 three pointers for 12.3 points per contest, and Nick DeJong averaged 10 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.

Head Coach Derek Schulte was also named as the coach of the group as well, guiding Pella to a 17-6 record.

Pella Christian had their big man Josh Van Gorp receive All-Substate honors in the 5th group in Class 2A. Van Gorp averaged 11.2 points and 7 rebounds per game for the balanced Eagles, who finished 14-9 overall in the substate finals. Head Coach Larry Hessing says Van Gorp is among a large group of juniors who will return next season and hopefully build on the success of this winter.

Knoxville’s Kieren Nichols was among seven players to earn a slot on the team. Nichols led the Panthers in scoring this season at 19 points per game which was third in the South Central Conference. He had 93 assists, which was also third in the conference.

PCM seniors Andrew Van Ryswyk and Reed Worth were selected to the class 2A all sub-state 5 team. Van Ryswyk not only was fourth in scoring in the Heart of Iowa Conference with 17.4 points a night but the center also showed off his range connecting on 44% of his three point attempts. The senior was also relentless on the boards leading the league with 10.6 rebounds a game. Worth was one of the best two-way players in the conference scoring 16.5 points a contest and was first in steals with 63.
