The Indianola YMCA and YMCA of Greater Des Moines held a reception for new Executive Director Heather Hulen Wednesday afternoon, who was named to the position last week. Hulen, who was serving as Interim Director, tells KNIA News the new position doesn’t feel much like work, it’s more of a calling in the community.

“I’ve really appreciated the fact that Indianola is home to me, and it means a lot to me. It’s very important to me that I give back to the community, and through my work here at the Y, I feel like the Y’s goals and focus align with my own. So the value of providing opportunities for others and strengthening our community just means a lot to me and is very much a passion of mine.”

Hulen also said that the connection between members, the community, community partners, and staff is crucial to the success of the YMCA and she wants to foster that connection. The YMCA is also wrapping up their fundraising effort for 2019. More information about fundraising can be found below.
