Governor Kim Reynolds says most of her priorities for the 2019 Legislative Session survived the first funnel in the Iowa Legislature. Reynolds says many of her proposals have seen bipartisan support, including restoring voting rights to felons, funding for children’s mental health, and the Future Ready Iowa initiative and expanding apprenticeship programs statewide. Reynolds believes the apprenticeship piece may have the most widespread impact over time in regards to workforce, as they’ve established programs at K-12 schools, community colleges, and prisons, all in partnership with local businesses. The Career Academy of Pella expanded apprenticeship opportunities for the upcoming academic year, which now includes welding, engineering technician, nursing, and culinary arts education programs.
