Two hyperbaric oxygen chambers weighing nearly 2,000 pounds were delivered to Pella Regional Health Center this week. Each chamber is 9 feet by 4 feet by 5 feet in size, and are housed in the new state-of-the-art Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine area opening in April. Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine will be located within the newly renovated section of the hospital at the corner of Jefferson and Hazel streets. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is one of the advanced treatment practices and protocols that will be offered. Others include negative pressure therapies, bioengineered tissues and biosynthetics. Chronic wounds affect more than 8 million people in the U.S., according to Pella Regional, and the incidence is rising fueled by an aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and the late effects of radiation therapy.
