Widespread snowmelt and freezing/thawing cycles have caused several issues with area roads, including:
-Soft roads with heavy thawing;
-Flooding, as water may be on the road in unexpected areas from ice-plugged culverts and ditches;
-Stream flooding from melting snow, run off, ice jams, and rain;
-Refreeze overnight where melting has occurred;
-Frost heave, Frost boils, or other uncharacteristic bumps and soft areas in gravel roads.
There may be issues that the Marion County Road Department may be unable to resolve until the weather changes or the freeze/thaw cycles end. They ask drivers to be patient and to never drive through a flooded roadway. Several streets in local communities may also have several potholes forming or worsening from the moisture, freezing, and thawing.
More rainfall is possible Tuesday and Wednesday, with moderate amounts possible, and coupled with temperatures well above freezing, may cause significant snowmelt and more localized flooding.
