With this week’s anticipated springtime thaw and increased flood risk, residents are reminded to use caution, especially while driving.

Senior Hydrologist Jeff Zogg with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says they typically issue two types of warnings and watches for the two primary threats — aerial or river flooding, or flash flooding.

Zogg says to never drive a vehicle through a flooded roadway, as the surface may be washed out and because it doesn’t take much water to sweep a car away.
