Four local boys basketball players earned All-State recognition this winter.
Pella Junior Logan Shetterly was a Class 3A Boys Basketball All-State Selection, as voted on by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association, and was named to the third team.
Logan averaged 17.3 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.2 steals per game for the 17-6 Little Dutch, who finished the season in the Class 3A substate round.
Knoxville’s Kieren Nichols was also a 3rd team All State honoree in 3A. The Panthers Sophomore led Knoxville is scoring at nearly 20 points per game and dealt out 93 assists. Nichols also shot 46-percent from the field and 41-percent from three point range. Knoxville finished with an 8-14 record.
PCM’s Andrew Van Ryswyk was named to the second team for class 2A. The senior was not only fifth in the Heart of Iowa Conference with 17.4 points per game but he also showed some unusual range for a center shooting 44% from three. He tells KRLS Sports that is part of his game that has developed over time.
“I’ve been able to shoot all throughout high school but it progressed each year and work in the summer has helped me out in the long run.”
Van Ryswyk helped the Mustangs to a 13-8 season.
Indianola’s Evan Gauger was a 2nd team selection in Class 4A. The future UNI Panther averaged 27.2 points per game, which was second best in Class 4A, and his 39 blocked shots were 4th best.
