The state has rested its case against a Marion County man charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother.
Jason Carter is standing trial in Council Bluffs, charged with the June 2015 death of his mother Shirley. The state has brought in several investigators who have described for the jury the investigative steps they followed which led them to conclude Carter was responsible for the shooting.
Marion County Attorney Ed Bull has also brought in members of the Carter family, including his father Bill…who says Jason would have inherited the family farm and assets in the event of the death of himself and his wife.
The state’s case has outlined Jason Carter’s financial problems and what they contend was a difficult relationship with his mother as motives for carrying out the shooting.
The case has now recessed for the weekend, and defense attorney Christine Branstad and her team will begin presenting their case on Monday morning.
