Marion County Democrats held their odd year caucuses Saturday in anticipation of the 2020 caucuses and presidential election.
They elected precinct leaders, and discussed potential caucus locations, and other events.
County Chair Megan Suhr stepped down after four years of service; she tells KNIA/KRLS News the time is right for the party, and for her to spend more time with her family.
“It has really just been a true pleasure, an honor to serve the Marion County Democratic Central Committee as well as represent the Marion County Democrats across our entire county,” Suhr says.
Dr. Ann Fields of Knoxville was elected Chair; she says she’s inheriting a strong organization in advance of the 2020 election.
“It’s big shoes to fill; Megan has done such a great job, but the organization is there; all of the other officers stayed the same, and so that’s important that we have that continuity. And I think that we’ve got people who are excited about this upcoming election and the upcoming caucus. And so that’s good,” Dr. Fields says.
Other officers elected were Cheri Sherrer as Vice Chair, Cindy Dilliner as Secretary, and Marta Morris was elected Treasurer.
