The PCM boys’ track team brings back a deep squad from a year ago in what is expected to be another year of tough teams in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
The Mustangs lost state champion Noah Anderson to graduation but have a big senior class headlined by Preston Van Wyk after a pair of top five finishes at state in the 100m and 200m dash last year. Van Wyk, Payton Strovers, and Wes Cummings return for the 4x200m relay team that placed third. Beau Webb in the 1600m dash among others return after qualifying for state in 2018. Head Coach Collin Harrison tells KRLS Sports that depth will need to come in handy in a loaded conference.
“When you look at the conference you always have Gilbert, North Polk, Roland-Story, Nevada, and many others that are always strong. The league is always tough top to bottom and you can look at the state meet and how many conference athletes are competing in it every year. We are feeling confident in how we stack up because we have a really good team and a lot of experience.”
The Mustangs get the season underway Tuesday at East Marshall.
