
The Pella Christian track and field team hauled in several top finishes at the Grinnell College Indoor Invitational Thursday.
The Eagles boys had three 1st place winners – Blake Veenstra in the shot put, the 60 meter medley (Kyle Fynaardt, Jase Amelse, Nathan DeBruin, Max Wichhart), and the distance medley (DeBruin, Amelse, Bryant Agre, and Lucas Bandstra). Kyle Fynaardt recorded the 2nd longest long jump, and the 4×200 relay (Cody Boender, Wichhart, DeBruin, Amelse) were also runners up, as was Jayden Huisman in the 200 meters. Carson Breon was 3rd in the 60 meter hurdles.
For the P.C. girls, Allison Van Gorp earned 1st place in the shot put, and the 60 meter medley and 4×200 relay of Erica Nikkel, Chloe Morgan, Mary Kate Bandstra, and Avey Amelse earned wins in their races as well. Emma Witzenburg had the 2nd fastest 60 meter hurdles time, and Mary Kate Bandstra also was second in the open 200 meters. Alicia Van Kooten in the 400 meter dash, Annaliese Admiraal in the 800 meters, and Avey Amelse in the 200 meters were 3rd place finishers.
The Eagles boys and girls are in action as the outdoor season begins Tuesday — the girls head to Davis County, while the boys will open the year at Eagle Lane.
