Fire broke out inside a garage at a home in the southwestern portion of Knoxville on Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to 1709 McKay Drive around 3:15 p.m. They arrived to find flames and heavy smoke coming from the garage.
Knoxville Fire Chief Cal Wyman tells KNIA/KRLS News his personnel were able to keep it contained.
“We were able to keep the fire to the garage, but we did cause significant smoke damage throughout the house; so we’ve got smoke, fire and water damage in the garage, and then smoke damage throughout the rest of the house,” Chief Wyman says.
No injuries are reported from the fire, and the cause has not been determined. The Red Cross was called in, to help the family displaced by the fire.
Personnel from the Knoxville Fire Department, Knoxville Police, the Knoxville Township Fire Department and Alliant Energy assisted at the scene.
