Work is in progress at the Grand Theater in downtown Knoxville to replace the front doors, in an effort to make the building more energy-efficient…and to make the main entrance resemble its original look.
A grant from the Pella Rolscreen Foundation along with other donations and a portion of the theater’s revenues are covering the cost for this project.
The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the week, but an issue discovered during the early stages will have to be examined by an engineer and the contractor before work continues.
The new doors are designed to improve energy efficiency and security, and give the entire Robinson Street facade a look which harkens back to the theater’s original grand opening in 1928.
The last round of renovations concluded in November of 2015, but there wasn’t enough money at the time to replace the existing set of doors, which were first installed in the 1970’s.
