District 40 State Senator Ken Rozenboom was presented with the Herbert Hoover Uncommon Public Service Award in the Iowa Senate Tuesday. The honor is awarded each year by the Hoover Presidential Board to a member of the Senate and a member of the House who have dedicated their time to public service and humanitarian projects.

“It’s an honor to be part of a group of such distinguished and accomplished individuals who have received this award,” said Senator Rozenboom. “Each year when this award is presented I am always impressed with the accomplishments and dedication of those recipients, and I am humbled the same was thought of me. Thank you to all those who have supported me during my time in public service, especially my wife, Becky, and thank you for the distinction of receiving this award. I am truly humbled.”

A farmer, agri-businessman and lifelong Iowan, Senator Rozenboom was born and resides in Mahaska County. He is a graduate of Pella Christian High School and attended Calvin College in Michigan. He returned home to farm with his father and brother before taking a position in sales and production management for a local agricultural supplier. He and his brother continue to operate Rosewood Farms, a family farming operation in rural Mahaska County.

Rozenboom’s public service began when he was elected to the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors, where he served on several boards and committee assignments. Rozenboom has served as an elder and deacon in the Bethel Christian Reformed Church and on the board for the Oskaloosa Christian School. He served on community boards for many years, including a stint as chairman on two local agencies: the Human Services Resource Council, an organization that provides emergency needs for low income families, and the Christian Opportunity Center board, which provides residential and vocational services for special needs adults.

Senator Rozenboom is in his second term serving District 40, which includes Pella and all of Mahaska county, and is the chair of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee and works on the Agriculture, Appropriations, and Education committees.
