The Knoxville Public Library is observing Money Smart Week from Sunday through Saturday, and this year the library is offering the public a chance to make sure their records and personal information remain secure.
A disposal bin is available at the library’s temporary location inside the former East Elementary School, from now through the end of April.
Roslin Thompson from the library tells KNIA/KRLS News they have in the past made arrangements for a truck to be on site for a few hours to pick up personal documents and take them for shredding.
“This year we have a bin that is available at the library; and people can bring their personal documents, their private documents, and put it in the bin. And it will be picked up by the company and it will be shredded; so all of your information is kept secure and confidential,” Thompson says.
The library has also received 50 books about money management aimed at children; Thompson says they’ve been distributed to teachers in 3rd through 5th grade, to use as study materials for their students.
Other books and guides on money management for adults are available next week and throughout the year at the library.
