South Central Iowa residents preparing for spring and summer temperatures should also check to see if their sump pump is working correctly. Warren County Emergency Management Coordinator Troy Bass tells KNIA News it’s important to check and test your sump pump now before more rain comes

“Make sure it works. If you haven’t used it such as pouring water in the pit and making sure it drains it back out, and drains properly into the yard or however its hooked up, that’s a good thing to check out. All winter it hasn’t had to work, its been sitting there idle, and then we have all those rains and it works overtime so check it out.”

Indianola Water Pollution Control Supervisors Rick Graves tells KNIA News that owners of older homes who have a sump pump tied into the sewer system are in violation of city code, and should take care of that immediately.
